What did you do before joining Quadient?
I worked mainly in the accounting department of a foreign securities company for more than 10 years. Eventually, the company had to withdraw from Japan due to the Lehman Brothers collapse, and I began to aspire to work for a non-financial company. In March 2017, I heard that there was an urgent and challenging position for an accounting manager, and I joined Quadient Japan (then Neopost Japan) because I thought I could make use of the practical accounting experience I had gained.
What makes Quadient a special place to work?
Whilst working in a larger company, I would only be responsible for some of the subdivided tasks in the same accounting department, but as a small company with less than 20 employees, the range of my duties has naturally expanded from general accounting, including monthly closing and financial reporting, to general affairs and human resources. I find this very rewarding.
In 2019, the company name was changed from Neopost to Quadient, and the group company Pac City Japan, which shares an office with Neopost, became a leader in Parcel Locker solutions, which can be seen everywhere you go in Japan. Quadient is a company that is constantly evolving with the times and one that cares about its employees, offering English classes and e-learning tools.
How does Quadient promote an inclusive community?
Quadient's EPIC values are an essential element in the company's work culture which promotes a better environment, positive human relations and business operations. We've experienced first hand the negative impacts of team members' reluctance to adopt any of the EPIC values which resulted in inefficient communications, business stagnation and a deteriorated working environment. Once these members left, the positive work culture was restored and business operations went back to normal.
How have you developed in your role and as an individual during your time at Quadient?
I think that by not setting work boundaries, opportunities to take on new challenges arise. Due to the retirement of staff, my work has expanded beyond the accounting department to include general affairs and human resources. I have been blessed with new opportunities to learn and develop my skills. I also have many opportunities to see many excellent female managers in action, which is inspiring.
How do you share and celebrate your own culture and the cultures and backgrounds of others in Quadient?
Promoting the creation of a workplace culture in which every employee respects and recognises others' diverse values and working styles is crucial for a successful business. I believe that new value creation and change (innovation) is possible when each member of the team makes the most of their abilities and demonstrates the power of teamwork.
